Decorate a small bathroom on a budget
Decorating on a budget is simpler with small spaces as you only have so much stuff that you can fit – to decorate a small bathroom on a budget is even much simpler compared to a bigger one.
The end goal here is to make a small bathroom look or feel bigger. There is not much you can do about the physical size of the bathroom, however – with a few tricks and tips, your bathroom will become a comfortable space.
Personally, I am not one for big bathrooms – for me, a bathroom is a fit for purpose room where I get cleaned and relaxed (neither things need humongous spaces in my opinion). I am fussy though about how my bathroom looks – and it is one of the spaces I enjoy decorating the most in my home. It is also important to me that the bathroom has enough personal touches.
Tips to decorate a small bathroom on a budget
The key to decorating a small bathroom is to go minimal. This is going to be easy if you are on a tight budget as you need a few things to put together a decent transformation for your bathroom.
I have selected a few things you can do to decorate a small bathroom on a budget. You do not need to use all the ideas as you will see what works for you and the theme that resonates with you best.
Splash some color and light
The slim and tall bathroom window lets in ample light. The light alone makes any room feel more spacious.
Notice how the window has no drapes or blinds at all?
This is another secret to making the small bathroom decor easier and giving it a feel of space……
Blinds or curtains add their own clutter…a disaster for small bathrooms, and yet you obviously do need your privacy.
Window films work better on small bathrooms
The secret is making use of window film…which blocks out light enough to give you privacy while letting in maximum light to create the spacious feel you need in order to decorate a small bathroom on a budget. I actually prefer the glass film. Your job will be cut in half if you have the frosted glass for your windows.
Amazon has a selection of various glass film and the ones below seem to be quite popular with decorators. Click on the image for prices and customer reviews.

Also notice that the main fixtures of the model bathroom are white….
This is quite necessary for small bathrooms…..
Play with lime green bathroom accessories (or a bright color of your choice)
However, they’ve used my favorite decor color i.e lime green for the accents and some lime green bathroom accessories.
Green in general creates an illusion of space. Lime green is a double bonus because it is a lighter hue of green and includes a lot of yellow as well.
The way they’ve painted or wall-papered one wall with a bright green color gives the room a burst of energy, as the color brings with it an element of surprise.
I like the wallpaper because of its temporal nature. You can also choose between different patterns and are not bound to a plain color wall-paper…whether you go for zig-zag patterns or polka dots is really a matter of taste on one’s side.
…This is the closest wallpaper I found on Amazon. I like how it is a backdrop for the room, while the piece of furniture remains neutral.
Mirrors make a small bathroom look bigger
Mirror…mirror..on the wall!
Mirrors are perfect when it comes to making a small bathroom look bigger – or any other room for that matter.
This will work best if the mirror is placed across the window. Reflecting the light from outside will multiply the lighting effect. More light opens up the energy and space in your bathroom, making it look bigger.
Also since a mirror goes on the wall, this is one piece of decor that will not clutter your bathroom. I also love sunburst mirrors because they also double as wall art.
I also like the canvas wall art photo on our model bathroom. I’d be careful though and not clutter the wall. Seeing that we are trying to decorate a small bathroom on a budget, we want to keep the money spent to a minimum and also go for a sleek, clutter free bathroom.
I’d also go for a bathroom cabinet that has mirror doors. Storage can be a trick when you want to make a small bathroom look bigger…it adds to the clutter, but when serving a double purpose, it will hardly be noticeable.
I found some bathroom mirrors, sunburst mirrors, wall art and bathroom cabinets to get you going….

Once you get the basics out of the way, bathroom accents and decor accessories will be your best friends. These will depend a lot on the color you have chosen as the theme of your bathroom.
Remember…no contrasting colors and you can never go wrong with green.
